MCP2544FDT-E/MNY is a high-speed CAN FD transceiver from Microchip Technology, designed for high-speed CAN FD applications up to 8 Mbps communication speed. The device meets the automotive requirements for CAN FD bit rates exceeding 2 Mbps, low quiescent current, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and electrostatic discharge (ESD) performance.
The MCP2544FDT-E/MNY supports both Classic CAN and CAN Flexible Data Rate applications, with optimized operation at 2, 5, and 8 Mbps. The device meets the latest ISO/DIS 11898-2:2015 specification and supports wake-up pattern detection. A VIO supply pin allows direct interfacing to CAN controllers and microcontrollers with 1.7V to 5.5V I/O (internally connected to VDD in the MCP2544FD variant).
The device features CAN bus pins that are disconnected when the device is unpowered, preventing an unpowered node or brown-out event from loading the CAN bus. Comprehensive protection includes ground fault detection (permanent dominant detection on TXD and on the bus), power-on reset and voltage brown-out protection on the VDD pin, protection against short-circuit conditions (positive or negative battery voltage), protection against high-voltage transients in automotive environments, and automatic thermal shutdown protection.
The MCP2544FDT-E/MNY is AEC-Q100 Grade 0 qualified and available in an 8-pin TDFN (2x3) package with an exposed pad, rated for operation from –40°C to +125°C (Extended grade). The device is RoHS compliant, REACH unaffected, and in active production.
CAN FD up to 8 Mbps Supports both Classic CAN and CAN Flexible Data Rate applications, optimized for 2, 5, and 8 Mbps operation with improved maximum propagation delay for longer bus lengths.
AEC-Q100 Grade 0 Qualified Meets automotive requirements with extended –40°C to +125°C operation, robust EMC and ESD performance, and 13 kV ESD protection on the CAN bus pins.
Very Low Standby Current (5 µA) Standby current of 5 µA (typical) with wake-up pattern detection, plus comprehensive fault protection including TXD dominant timeout and thermal shutdown.
