UC3833J is a precision low dropout linear controller from Texas Instruments (formerly Unitrode) that includes all the basic control functions required in the design of very low dropout linear regulators[reference:0]. The device features a 2-volt (±1%) precision reference, error amplifier, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and a high current driver with both source and sink outputs, allowing the use of either NPN or PNP external pass transistors[reference:1][reference:2].
The UC3833J incorporates an innovative duty-ratio current limiting technique that provides peak load capability while limiting the average power dissipation of the external pass transistor during fault conditions[reference:3]. When the load current reaches an accurately programmed threshold, a gated-astable timer is enabled, which switches the regulator's pass device off and on at an externally programmable duty-ratio[reference:4]. If the timer pin is grounded, the duty-ratio timer is disabled and the IC operates in constant-voltage/constant-current regulating mode[reference:5].
The UC3833J is the commercial temperature range version (0°C to 70°C) of the UC3833 family[reference:6]. It is available in a ceramic 8-pin CDIP (J suffix) package[reference:7]. The device operates from a 4.5V to 36V input voltage range and provides a fixed 2V output with 100mA output drive capability[reference:8].
